What The What?

May 29, 2011

This is what I woke up to this fine morning of Sunday, May 29, 2011.

That’s right…snow! SNOW! At the end of May! This is of course is one of those times that begs the question, “What am I doing here?”

Here is what I saw when I ventured out.

This is all the result of something called an up slope storm. Lander is basically surrounded on two and a half to three sides with mountains (South, West, and some of the North). This kind of storm is the result of the jet stream rotating and coming in from the East. It moves towards Lander and is then trapped there by the mountains…just sitting on top of Lander. These kinds of storm have had the tendency to dump 1-2 feet of snow on Lander in the past. The Accuweather story on this says perhaps only 3-6 inches. I am hoping for rising temperatures and snow turning to rain.

Here is a picture of the radar with Lander in the red star…engulfed in that blue snowy blob.

It is going to be a day of streaming Netflix, eating warm comfort foods, and cuddling up with a nice blanket.

Send me warm thoughts!!!!

You know, I couldn’t help but think of Michigan and how if it snowed at the end of May we would have 2 things guaranteed: 1. HORRIBLE drivers who don’t know how to drive in the snow again, even though they had all winter (although maybe it could be a warm up for the next winter). 2. People saying, “well, that’s Michigan weather for you.” Just saying.
